Know what you mean about nursing homes. My oldeds aunt moved here from Mt. Pleasant to be close to the family. She has been in and out of hospitals and nursing homes for the last 2 years. This week she is doing fine. Last week..not so much. I try to visit 3 or 4 times a week and it is worth the time involved. The only major problem we've had is that most of the staff comes either from Africa or the Carribean. Communication can be comical. One aide insisted on helping her to the bathroom. She didn't want to go, she was asking them to bring her some more water! Good luck and hope your mom gets better, soon.
